Gómez de Segura Vendimia Seleccionada Rioja

00060215

Gómez de Segura Vendimia Seleccionada is a supple and versatile Rioja with lots of interesting tempranillo fruit tones, nicely complemented by an elegant layer of maturity notes imparted by brief ageing in oak barrels. Rioja is by far Spain's wine industry driver. Host to over 700 wineries, this wine producing region sets the trend on many fronts. Between premium wine bodegas and volume wineries there is a good number of family run, small producers like Gómez de Segura. Following the trend to move away from the traditional Rioja style -complex reds matured in oak for long periods-, Gómez de Segura place a strong emphasis on the fruit to portrait local Tempranillo with their wines. In this case, they manage to do so at a surprisingly competitive price.
Winemaking: Own 40-year old vineyards situated on a south-facing hillside. Calcareous clay soil. Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influence. Annual average rainfall of 400l. Fermented in inox tanks over 10 days plus an extra week of daily pump-overs. Aged in French oak and  rounded up in bottle.

Winery: Bodegas Gómez de Segura

Great price/quality for a Rioja

Better quality and price than anything you can get at the supermarket. Thoroughly nice Rioja
